The Shagbark name was inspired by a shagbark hickory tree growing along the banks of the Lower James River, which chef and owner Walter Bundy has turned into an impressive communal table at the restaurant. 

Shagbark showcases Virginia's dynamic offerings with locally sourced dishes and a modern take on Up-South cuisine. Shagbark pulls together the best of Virginia’s farms and waterways with an eclectic menu of food and beverages.

Shagbark has been a TowneBank member since 2017. The same year TowneBank opened the Libbie Mill location around the corner from the restaurant, near Staples Mill Road and Broad Street. In addition to their accounts, Shagbark also uses TowneBank Merchant Services to process credit and debit card payments at the restaurant.

A highly acclaimed restaurant in the Richmond area, the restaurant was named by USA Today in 2016 as one of the “20 new restaurants to try this fall” and it made the AAA Four Diamond list in 2017. Shagbark offers a twist on tradition with seasonal, local cuisine and an unique ambiance. Chef Walter Bundy describes the restaurant as “seasonally driven concept celebrating Virginia’s best producers farmers and fishermen.” The menu changes frequently and every ingredient is meticulously thought out and locally purchased.
