Inspiring Students to be Leaders and Trailblazers

Cardinal Gibbons encourages students to get involved. Sarah Hardin, director of communications and marketing, shares, “If a student expresses an interest in something, we try to find a faculty member who is also interested and form a group. We work to align interests to create a positive experience for every student.” From Robotics Club and Drama Club to Service Beakers and Gibbons Friends, there is a club, service organization, or student interest group for everyone at Cardinal Gibbons. The school also has freshman, junior varsity, and varsity sports teams. Known as the Crusaders, the Cardinal Gibbons football team recently won the school’s first football state championship in 2021.
Nestled in the heart of Raleigh lies a Catholic school where tradition meets faith, Cardinal Gibbons High School is a coeducational, college preparatory school within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh that has been forming men and women of faith, service, and leadership since 1909. Originally known as Sacred Heart High School and Raleigh’s first Roman Catholic high school, the school was renamed Cardinal Gibbons Memorial High School in 1962.
The school community, consisting of approximately 1,600 students and 165 faculty and staff members, strives to embody the Catholic faith while shaping and inspiring students to be leaders and trailblazers in their communities today and tomorrow. On average, 98% of Cardinal Gibbons’ graduates attend college.
The school’s Catholic identity is a huge part of who they are. Daily mass is celebrated, and there is a full-time priest on staff. While 75% of the student body is Catholic, 25% are non-affiliated. The school has a wide range of faith-based interests. Everyone is welcome, and there are resources and groups for everyone.
Kathy shares, “The dedication of the faculty to the students is unmatched. We encourage our faculty and students to participate in advisory groups and various service opportunities to strengthen relationships and give back to the community.”
Cardinal Gibbons encourages students to be active members of the community. Each grade level participates in a different service opportunity each year, including soup kitchens, Catholic Parish outreach, personal projects, and Habitat for Humanity. Kathy continues, “Our school is proud to be known throughout the community for our commitment to faith, service, and leadership.”
