Hatcher & Frey Orthodontics Expands to Better Serve Patients

The goal has been to bring services to their patients. “I think it’s a testament to the care we’re offering that people are willing to drive 30-45 minutes to see us,” says Bill Hatcher, MS, DDS, who taught biology and chemistry at Great Bridge High School, before switching gears to earn his dental degree from Medical College of Virginia. He completed orthodontics training at the University of Detroit Mercy and opened his first office in 1998 in Western Branch.
Scott Frey, MS, DDS, graduated at the top of his class from the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco and then obtained his orthodontics certification at the University of Colorado. Scott joined the practice in 2018, and Bill calls it a magical fit from the start. “Sometimes you are just waiting for that right person to come along. Scott has brought in some great ideas, and we are very fortunate to have him on board. It has increased my enjoyment of the practice even more.”
Scott agrees, saying that their mutual voice and shared passion for education is what drew him to Virginia. He serves on the Invisalign® Clinical Advisory Board, is a published scientific author and reviewer, and is an expert lecturer for numerous orthodontic companies, including Align Technology. Hatcher & Frey Orthodontics is recognized as a top 1% provider of Invisalign® and Invisalign First®.
“Our involvement in shaping the future of orthodontics gives our practice access to the latest orthodontic technology,” says Scott. “We are able to utilize cutting-edge tools to deliver better, more efficient care, for example, using our virtual care platform to monitor patients more precisely between visits.”
Bill, who serves on TowneBank’s Portsmouth board, said he is grateful to TowneBank for funding the expansion of their unique business model, and for offering other helpful products such as coverage through Towne Insurance. He is also grateful to Towne for their shared philosophy about how to grow, expand, and be successful in business. “TowneBank’s culture and mindset have always been to work hard and support local businesses. They are a huge part of this community,” explains Bill. “Scott and I strive to offer different services efficiently through technology, but still not lose that personal touch. I always say, ‘People don’t really care how much you know until they know how much you care.’ And I think Towne’s always been about that, too.”
Bill says their practice couldn’t be successful without their dedicated 40-member staff. Scott sums it up well, “We are focused on delivering the best patient experience possible through great people and technology. We want to make sure our patients get the smile they’re hoping for as quickly and as smoothly as possible.”
