Akhil Jain served as King Neptune for the 50th Annual Neptune Festival held in September. Akhil is a member of the TowneBank Virginia Beach Board.
King Neptune serves as the leader of the Neptune Festival season of events. The King is chosen by the Neptune Festival committee from public nominations. The selection is based on demonstrated involvement and contribution to the quality of life in Virginia Beach and active participation in community life. Once chosen, the King and the rest of the Court become ambassadors for the Neptune Festival throughout the year.
“We are so pleased to have Akhil Jain as our 50th King Neptune,” said Christopher “Kit” Chope, president and CEO of the Neptune Festival. “Akhil has poured himself into our community in so many ways. He is the ideal ambassador for the Neptune Festival’s mission to Celebrate the Beach Life—especially during our momentous 50th anniversary year.”
“I’m honored to be associated with the Neptune Festival and all the kings who have come before me,” Akhil says. “Far more than me, those are the people who have made Virginia Beach what it is, and to be included with that sort of company is just an incredible honor.” Akhil also commented on the long history of the Neptune Festival. “Fifty years is quite a milestone for the organization. It started as just an idea and one event, and to witness it grow to what it is today is remarkable.”

As president of the independent hotel management company Landmark Hotel Group, Akhil leads a team that operates and develops some of the industry’s largest brands, including Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, InterContinental, Radisson, and Choice Hotels. With corporate headquarters in Virginia Beach, Landmark’s portfolio includes twelve hotels in Hampton Roads and the Outer Banks.
Akhil is deeply involved in giving back to the community. He serves as a director on the boards of various organizations, including TowneBank, the United Way of South Hampton Roads, the Neptune Festival, and the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, where he serves as Chairman. He also serves as a member of the Hampton Roads Community Leadership Partners, Virginia Beach Vision, and the Norfolk Forum Board.
In addition to Akhil Jain, Towne Insurance was represented on the Royal Court by Mark Horton, senior vice president and risk advisor, who served as a Triton. The Royal Court is selected based on their contributions to the community.
Congratulations to Akhil and Mark for your community service!
