Award-Winning Ophthalmology for Chesapeake Director Stephanie Mariouneaux, M.D.
Congratulations to TowneBank Chesapeake director Stephanie Marioneaux who recently received two awards from the American Academy of Ophthalmology – the 2023 Life Achievement Honor Award and the Hall of Fame Award for the Secretariat of State Affairs. Both awards recognize members for their contributions to the Academy, its scientific and educational programs, and to ophthalmology.
"I am so honored and humbled to have received the American Academy of Ophthalmology Hall of Fame Award from the Secretariat for State Affairs as well as the AAO Lifetime Achievement Award at our annual meeting in San Francisco,” Stephanie says. “It has been an amazing journey with hopefully more to come. Special thanks to my husband, Harold Marioneaux, Jr. DDS, and my colleagues and office staff. I couldn't do this without them!"
The mission of the American Academy of Ophthalmology is to protect sight and empower lives by serving as an advocate for patients and the public, leading ophthalmic education, supporting research, and advancing the profession of ophthalmology. It is the world's largest association of eye physicians and surgeons with a community of more than 32,000 doctors.
Dr. Marioneaux is an ophthalmology specialist in Chesapeake and has more than 40 years of experience. She graduated from Harvard Medical School. For 20 years, she was a professor of ophthalmology at Eastern Virginia Medical School. She has worked with Physicians for Peace on medical missions to Brazil. She specializes in cataract surgery, laser procedures, and corneal transplants. Stephanie recently participated in a lively panel discussion as part of Empowering Women Around Towne sponsored by the Women’s Networking Speaker series at Towne University.
