Excalibur Gymnastics
Bringing the Olympics to Virginia Beach

In 2000, Gustavo and Marina Moure moved to Virginia Beach from their native Argentina, where they had managed a gymnasium. They opened a gym in Virginia Beach with their friends Dena and Jim Walker. “It took a while to develop, but we put a plan together, and today we have a very successful education center for gymnastics – Excalibur Gymnastics,” Gustavo says.
Excalibur Gymnastics is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and currently, more than 1,000 students, from toddlers to teenagers, are enrolled in classes. Children can start at Excalibur Gymnastics as young as two in their Parent and Me classes. “We teach strength, flexibility, balance, and technique – skills that unlock a child’s full potential and are the foundation for any sport,” Gustavo says. “We give athletes the skills and confidence they need to become stronger physically and mentally. It is a well-known fact that enrolling children in sports can have many positive impacts on their life.”
Adaptive gymnastics is a program designed for athletes with special needs. The experienced staff provides a safe space for children to learn the fundamentals of gymnastics while also helping develop social skills and independence. “We have had more than 250 children go through this program, and it’s rewarding to see them and their families get the support they need,” Gustavo says.
The gym at Excalibur Gymnastics is a state-of-the-art 16,200 square-foot facility designated as a National Training Center. In addition to the many classes, Excalibur Gymnastics offers a 10-week summer camp, birthday parties, and field trips.
Each year in February, Excalibur Gymnastics hosts the exciting Excalibur Cup that is truly the Virginia Beach Olympics. This year more than 3,800 athletes from 25 states and 10 countries competed in this national qualifier event held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
“We started the Excalibur Cup at our gym, but then moved to the Virginia Beach Convention Center in 2005. In fact, the very first event held at the new Virginia Beach Convention Center was the Excalibur Cup,” Gustavo says. “Virginia Beach has supported us over the years, and it has grown beyond our wildest dreams.”
Excalibur Gymnastics works with TowneBank vice president and commercial banker Shannon Clark . “We moved our bank accounts years ago, and we couldn’t be happier,” Gustavo says. “We felt that big banks didn’t care, but at TowneBank, they make you feel that you are the most important member of the bank. That is the feeling we get every time we work with Towne.”
“I was so excited to attend the Excalibur Cup this year. Excalibur Gymnastics named one of their gym areas the TowneBank Gym,” Shannon says. “The enthusiasm of the young athletes is contagious, and I really felt that I was at the Virginia Beach Olympics!”
