Celebrating the 22nd
TowneBank Foundation Golf Tournament
In May, golfers gathered at the TowneBank headquarters in Suffolk before hitting the links at Riverfront Golf Club. Once again, there was a sold-out field of 36 foursomes. In total, a record-setting $210,000 was raised to support the TowneBank Foundation, which brings the grand fundraising total to over $2 million since the first golf outing in 2001. These funds will be dispersed to local charities by the TowneBank Foundation. The Foundation provides grants and donations to over two hundred organizations each year.
Before hitting the course, golfers enjoyed lunch on our Member Service Center patio and visited the ball engraving station. After pros from Riverfront Club explained the rules, Bob Aston, TowneBank executive chairman, welcomed the golfers and provided remarks of appreciation.
“Thank you all so much for coming out today and supporting our foundation. Your support allows us to do remarkable things in the community.” Bob continued, “I also want to thank co-chairs John Fruit and Andy Rivenbark. They have suffered through wind, rain, hurricanes, and tornados. Today, they finally got a sunny day. Congratulations.”
John and Andy are longtime coordinators of the tournament, leading our volunteers and ensuring the event is an annual success. “The tournament was a tremendous success thanks to our sponsors, patrons, volunteers, and friends at Riverfront Golf Club. The beautiful weather made it a perfect day to raise money for local organizations in need,” said Andy.
John shared, “I could not agree with Andy more. We are humbled by the outpouring of support for this event. I am so thankful to play a small part in helping to fund so many charitable organizations in our community.”
