Pinnacle Living: Enriching the Lives of Virginia Seniors

A couple who planned to move into Cedarfield, a Pinnacle Living retirement community near Richmond, found themselves in a tight spot when their house sold much faster than anticipated. Would it be possible, they asked, to move into their new apartment sooner?
Typically, the move-in process, which involves numerous preparations, takes 90 days. Pinnacle Living’s team, working over the holidays, was able to help the couple cut the timeline in half while ensuring a smooth transition. They avoided the expense of finding temporary housing and storing their furniture, and they moved into their new space in January.
“It was a whirlwind. They had a lot to do. We had a lot to do,” says Laura Jones, Pinnacle Living’s vice president of sales and marketing. “In the end, we were able to help and support them. Everybody was just thankful. It really was a partnership among all of us.”
Pinnacle Living, a nonprofit, faith-based organization, has been making a difference in the lives of Virginia seniors for over 70 years. It is driven by its mission of enriching life’s journey for its residents. With four communities spread across the state — Cedarfield plus Hermitage Richmond in Richmond, WindsorMeade in Williamsburg, and Hermitage Roanoke in Roanoke — Pinnacle Living offers a range of options for older adults.
“We provide the community in which older adults can thrive and enhance their lives,” Laura says. “We also provide support services for people if they need a higher level of support in the future. We provide that care and support for residents for whenever they need it, as long as they need it.”
All four Pinnacle Living communities are life plan communities designed to meet the diverse needs and lifestyle preferences of older adults. Independent living options include apartments, cottages, and villas. Pinnacle Living also provides assisted living, memory support, and skilled nursing care.
Pinnacle Living is a private-pay organization. Residents fund their stay through investments and, in some cases, insurance coverage. Any excess funds at the end of the year are reinvested into their communities, rather than being distributed as dividends to shareholders. The Samaritan program guarantees residents the ability to continue living in their communities if they outlive their financial resources through no fault of their own.
Pinnacle Living has been a member of TowneBank since 2022. “Pinnacle Living wanted a banking partner that was focused on establishing a relationship with us,” says Kevin Salminen, the organization’s chief financial officer. “This includes having a person we can call if there are any problems or challenges. We are not facing an 800 number. Our organization has a focus on people and relationships, and our preference is to have vendors who have that same mindset.”
Kevin says Pinnacle Living appreciates its TowneBank relationship manager, Simeon Harris, and its support team led by Gabriel White. Simeon, senior vice president and commercial lender with TowneBank, says Pinnacle’s mission is parallel to TowneBank’s focus on “serving others, enriching lives.”
“Pinnacle’s purposeful focus to better the lives of our aging population is inspiring,” says Simeon, who has been Pinnacle Living’s banking partner since 2017, when he was at a different bank. “I love having a connection with this organization and assisting with the banking services needed to further their mission. It all comes down to relationships and doing what’s right by members.”
