Loan Officers Empower Agent Partners with Self-Defense Class
TowneBank Mortgage Wilmington-based loan officers Megan Nunez and Marsha Stone recently hosted a self-defense class for 25 real estate agent partners at Intracoastal Realty. The hands-on educational event aimed to equip the agents with practical skills and knowledge to enhance their personal safety while carrying out their professional duties.
Megan and Marsha, who recognize the unique challenges faced by real estate agents, believed that providing them with self-defense training would not only boost their confidence, but would also strengthen their ability to protect themselves in risky situations.
“My daughter is graduating high school soon, and I wanted to prepare her for being on her own. Then I thought that it would also be a great activity for real estate agents who often work alone and encounter various individuals during property showings, open houses, or client meetings,” said Megan.

Real estate agents at Intracoastal Realty were taught self-defense to enhance their personal safety and boost their confidence.The comprehensive workshop was taught by instructors at 3rd Street BJJ and Fitness, a Martial Arts School that focuses on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Kickboxing. The Intracoastal Realty office in Wilmington hosted the event.
“We’ve had a relationship with Intracoastal Realty for eight years now. We attend all their events and support them in any way we can,” said Megan. “I’m thrilled that the class was both fun and empowering and that we were able to help the agents feel confident in their ability to protect themselves.”
The event was so successful that the loan officers plan to host another one in the fall. “We had a lot of great feedback,” said Marsha. “Even though the class was only an hour, the agents said it helped them to improve situational awareness of their surroundings and know what steps to take – just in case.”
