Bringing Beach Music Back to Greensboro

The Beach Music Festival, one of Greensboro's most beloved traditions, returned to downtown Greensboro earlier this summer. The concert series featured shag music favorites including The Tams, The Catalinas, The Band of Oz, Part Time Party Time Band, and Chairmen of the Board.
The series originally began in 2003 as a fundraiser for Children’s Home Society (CHS). The event took a hiatus due to the pandemic but was brought back this year by Downtown Greensboro Incorporated (DGI), with the blessing of CHS. “We want to once again make Greensboro the hottest destination for beach music lovers,” says Zack Matheny, DGI president and CEO. “Our focus at DGI is to stimulate investment and activity in the center city, and the TowneBank Beach Music Festival is a great and fun way to do so.”
Held at the home of the Greensboro Grasshoppers, each concert had over 1,000 attendees. Tickets were $15 and children 12 and under were free. Vendors were onsite with food and beverage options and concertgoers were encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on the field while enjoying the show.
“We were honored to partner with the DGI team to bring back the summer beach music festival,” Scott Baker, TowneBank Triad president said. “The TowneBank Beach Music Festival brought great energy to downtown Greensboro in an affordable, family-friendly manner. DGI continues to work hard to improve the downtown experience and we are privileged to participate.”
