VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Tuesday, TowneBank joined Habitat for Humanity in kicking off construction of a townhome community for families who have special needs members.
At 8 a.m., 40 Towne Bank volunteers arrived at the Kenley Commons off Kenley Road in Virginia Beach and began the construction of the developments first townhome. The community will ultimately include six townhomes, designed to accommodate local families with members suffering from chronic illness or disability.
The first townhome at Kenley Commons is also Habitat for Humanity's premier Habitat for Heroes veteran's build -- it will be purchased by Lydia Mata, a veteran and widowed mother of three.
In addition to volunteering with construction, TowneBank has contributed $35,000 to Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads this year, much of which is being used to construct the first Kenley Commons' townhome.
