The air was electric at Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway for Championship Night on October 7, 2023. The stands were full as the City of Hampton looked to crown one of its own not only as the Late Model Stock Car champion for the Langley Speedway season, but also to celebrate the driver, Connor Hall, as the national Advanced Auto Parts Weekly Series NASCAR Champion.
Connor, who has been racing since age 9 and appeared in the TowneToday at age 15 when he raced the Legends series, did the unthinkable this year when the 26-year-old Hampton native clinched the national title for the Division I weekly point series in September. His season started with a hot streak that kept a slow burn throughout the summer.
By July, he realized it was truly possible to claim the national title for the weekly points series in his event. By season end, Connor had competed in NASCAR points races at five tracks across Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina — Langley, Hickory, Southern National, Florence, and New River All American. He won an astounding 18 first place finishes out of 27 races, and added important points to the total with 24 finishes in the top five and 25 in the top 10.
There were setbacks along the way, but with each obstacle, Connor and his team made adjustments to get the car to peak performance. He and friend Clayton Parrish are the masterminds that build, maintain, and adjust the cars that Connor races on the weekends. Connor’s father Earle is a steady presence in the garage and at the track.
Earle and wife Denise beamed with pride on Championship Night as Hampton Councilman Billy Hobbs, a car enthusiast in his own right, delivered a proclamation naming October 7 as “Connor Hall Day” in the City of Hampton.
“We are so thankful to TowneBank for the ongoing support of Bluewater Motorsports,” says Earle. “You have been on this ride with us from the beginning.”
TowneBank shared in the excitement of Connor’s championship season as a lead sponsor of the 77 car. “Connor shows that with perseverance, grit, and passion, you truly can achieve what might have once seemed impossible,” said TowneBank Executive Chairman Bob Aston. “He’s a hometown hero, and we are so proud of all that he has accomplished.”
